Electrical outlets are found in almost every room of the house and can present a real danger to children if not properly guarded. According to Electrical Safety Foundation International (ESFI), an estimated 2,400 children are shocked or burned by sticking their fingers or other items in sockets and various electrical receptacles, resulting in 6-12 fatalities a year. The good news –tamper resistant receptacles or TRRs offer simple, affordable, and reliable protection from injuries.

Children and toddlers can easily remove plastic outlet caps, plus they are considered a choking hazard. On the other hand, TRRs provide a permanent solution to the problem of adequately childproofing your sockets. Electrical outlets with TRRs feature built-in safety shutters that block foreign objects from being inserted into the receptacle.

How they work. Shutters will remain closed if an object is inserted into one side of the receptacle. The shutters open only when a 2 bladed or grounded plug is inserted. TRRs work like normal outlets but are safer. They have also been required by the National Electrical Code since 2008
